St. Helena, located in the world famous wine producing Napa Valley, serves as an important business and banking center for the wine industry.  Situated approximately 65 miles north of San Francisco, St. Helena has a population of approximately 5,800 and a climate similar to that of the Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters.  Downtown St. Helena was designated a Nationally Registered Historic District in 1998 and has a number of historical buildings listed on the National and California State Historic Registers.  You can see a number of these buildings by participating in one of the Napa County Landmarks historical walking tours.

You won't have to go far to visit one of the local wineries.  The Tamber Bey Vineyards are located right in the heart of St. Helena's historical downtown area.  Famous for their estate-grownCabernet Sauvignon, Merlot Cabernet Franc, and Chardonnay, the wine bar and tasting room are open daily.  The Sterling Vineyards winery is the only winery in the valley with its own aerial tram, offering visitors a stunning view of the vineyards as the ride up to the winery.

Ellen White, co-founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, was one of St. Helena's most famous citizens.  Her home, the stately Victorian residence known as Elmshaven, still stands today and is a protected National Historic Landmark.

St. Helena's central location makes it a great jumping off place for exploring other sites of interest in the historical and wine-rich Napa Valley!
